Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May and commemorates the U.S. men and women who have died in our nation’s service. What began as a time to honor Union soldiers who died during American Civil War, after WWI, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. The Hinsdale Central Cheer Squad showed their support and joined the United States Coast Guard stationed in Burr Ridge on their float in the Memorial Day parade downtown Chicago this past Saturday, May 24th.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE DOWNTOWN HINSDALE
Then, on Monday, May 26th, a Hinsdale memorial day procession will start at 10:00am at First and Garfield streets, heading to the Memorial Building. A service will follow, featuring music by the Hinsdale Chorale, a 21-gun salute, the playing of “Taps” and the laying of a wreath at the “Victory of Hinsdale” sculpture in the Memorial Building. The Memorial Building was built in 1928 with donations from residents. It is a memorial to all of Hinsdale’s residents that died in war. Many of the boy scout and girl scout troops of the area take part in this procession. It’s been a Hinsdale tradition for many years.
