Boys’ Tennis Team Wins State Championship

Monday, May 26th, 2008Hinsdale Central’s varsity badminton team won the State title. The state finals were in Charleston on May 9 – 10, 2008. The girls took the courts by storm and won with a 14 point lead.

Monday, May 26th, 2008If you are looking for the perfect spot to have a picnic, there are plenty of spots in Hinsdale or very near to enjoy a picnic.
In Hinsdale, the 6.6 acre Burns Field, 52-acre Katherine Legge Memorial Park and 8.8 acre Peirce Park all feature sheltered picnic areas, playground and tennis courts.
Fullersburg Woods Forest Preserve at 3609 Spring Road in Oak Brook, just north of Ogden Avenue, has a picnic area and nonreservable shelter on its 226 acres. The preserve also features a 1.3 mile interpretive trail, a wildflower trail, a one-half mile trail along Salt Creek to Graue Mill and more than 2.5 miles of 8 foot wide multipurpose trails open to bicyclers, horseback riders, hikers and dog walkers.
Mayslake Forest Preserve off 31st Street, just west of Rout 83, has a reservable picnic area among its 13 acres of wetlands, 9 acres of lakes and ponds and 15 acres of prairie, marsh and savanna. Fishing is permitted on the northern portion of the lake and dogs can enjoy the fully fenced off leash area, which has 4 acres of mowed grass and a double gate system. The historical Mayslake Peabody Estate is also on the 90 acre property, which includes the Mayslake Hall and the Portiuncula Chapel.
Memorial Day Parade downtown Chicago

Memorial Day is observed on the last Monday of May and commemorates the U.S. men and women who have died in our nation’s service. What began as a time to honor Union soldiers who died during American Civil War, after WWI, it expanded to include those who died in any war or military action. The Hinsdale Central Cheer Squad showed their support and joined the United States Coast Guard stationed in Burr Ridge on their float in the Memorial Day parade downtown Chicago this past Saturday, May 24th.
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE DOWNTOWN HINSDALE
Then, on Monday, May 26th, a Hinsdale memorial day procession will start at 10:00am at First and Garfield streets, heading to the Memorial Building. A service will follow, featuring music by the Hinsdale Chorale, a 21-gun salute, the playing of “Taps” and the laying of a wreath at the “Victory of Hinsdale” sculpture in the Memorial Building. The Memorial Building was built in 1928 with donations from residents. It is a memorial to all of Hinsdale’s residents that died in war. Many of the boy scout and girl scout troops of the area take part in this procession. It’s been a Hinsdale tradition for many years.

District 181 board redistricts The Lane kids to HMS

Due to the overcrowding of the newer middle school in Clarendon Hills the kids from The Lane school district or the northeast section of Hinsdale will now be attending the Hinsdale Middle School close to downtown Hinsdale. Former Lane students attending Clarendon Hills Middle School, however, may continue attending CHMS or transfer to HMS based on the parents’ decision. The families that continue to go to CHMS will be bused to CHMS for up to three years through a grandfathering clause.
